В 1945 его, студента, призвали в армию, где он попал в плен и был интернирован в Узбекистан. После возвращения в Японию впервые посетил СССР в 1972 году, участвовал в археологических раскопках и исследованиях. Узбекистанский Термез он называл своей второй родиной, там же умер и был похоронен.
