Специалисты поясняют, что «цветы» образуются, когда вода ещё тёплая, а воздух уже достаточно холодный. Из-за этой разницы в температуре водяные капли кристаллизуются, хаотично перемещаются, слипаются и превращаются в «кустики». Такое бывает только в дни, когда совсем нет ветра. Ледяные цветы очень быстро исчезают.
