Уважаемые коллеги!
14 декабря (четверг) в 18:30 состоится очередное заседание научного семинара Международного центра антропологии Homo sapiens historicus. С докладом на тему "Anthropology and Counterinsurgency: Breaking the Cycle of Violence in Iraq 2003-2010" выступит Professor, University of Cambridge, Visiting Professor, University of the Free State, Glen Segell.

Аннотация доклада:
The question “How anthropological approaches may help quell (tribal) violence?” sets the agenda for this lecture. The case is Iraq (2003-2010). The first part details the theoretical underpinnings to the anthropological approaches. The emphasis is on Cultural Anthropology and Linguistic Anthropology. The theories presented are both from expert academic literature as well as those applied by the Multi-National Force in Iraq led by the USA. That leads to the second part that gives detailed examples - quantitative and qualitative and videos. The findings are that the study of the cultures (strategic) inherently being anthropological is the solution. Not in pouring more troops into combat but in the hearts and minds of the people. Quelling violence stems from cultural relativism - understanding societies from within their own framework, including the learned behavior of people, their languages, political and religious belief systems, social and economic structures, institutions, and material possessions and quests.

Доклад будет представлен на английском языке.

Right now the digital security needs of Russians and Ukrainians are very different, and they lead to very different caveats about how to mitigate the risks associated with using Telegram. For Ukrainians in Ukraine, whose physical safety is at risk because they are in a war zone, digital security is probably not their highest priority. They may value access to news and communication with their loved ones over making sure that all of their communications are encrypted in such a manner that they are indecipherable to Telegram, its employees, or governments with court orders. "Your messages about the movement of the enemy through the official chatbot … bring new trophies every day," the government agency tweeted. Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Kyiv-based lawyer and head of the Center for Civil Liberties, called Durov’s position "very weak," and urged concrete improvements. He said that since his platform does not have the capacity to check all channels, it may restrict some in Russia and Ukraine "for the duration of the conflict," but then reversed course hours later after many users complained that Telegram was an important source of information. "Someone posing as a Ukrainian citizen just joins the chat and starts spreading misinformation, or gathers data, like the location of shelters," Tsekhanovska said, noting how false messages have urged Ukrainians to turn off their phones at a specific time of night, citing cybersafety.
