Причиной продолжающегося загрязнения называют разлив мазута в Чёрном море после крушения танкеров «Волгонефть-212» и «Волгонефть-239», которое произошло 15 декабря 2024 года. Тогда шторм повредил суда, что привело к утечке нефтепродуктов и нанесло серьёзный ущерб экологии региона.
Специалисты продолжают мониторинг ситуации. По словам экологов, долгосрочные последствия аварии могут сохраняться на протяжении нескольких лет, особенно с учётом циркуляции мазутных пятен в прибрежных водах.
