The Calm Before the Storm

In late September I went on a mom's retreat with our kids to the NC mountains. It was absolutely beautiful! The reference pictures used in this piece, were from photos I took with my phone while we were there. We were there for 3 nights and on the third day, the storm rolled in. On the third night, we all had to go to the basement because of a tornado warning in the area due to tropical storm Helene. We even debated on whether we should stay because of the roads flooding. We decided to leave as soon as the sun came up on our original checkout day. It turns out that if we had stayed any later than we did, we would've been stuck at our air bnb on a mountain with no food, water, no way out, and no way to call for help. We were very lucky, but it was definitely scary and my heart breaks for the people who weren't so lucky. 💔

This trip and our narrow escape from Helene was the partial inspiration for this piece but not the only one. When we got back, one of my dear friends lost her husband suddenly just days after returning home and this was a week before the year anniversary of the death of my fiancé. It was a really hard time all around. When thinking about our trip and how delicate our lives can be, the title of this piece came to me.

Ultimately "The Calm Before the Storm" is about the comfort we have before a major life change and how sometimes that comfort can feel concrete, like it will always be there. Nature often reminds us that isn't the case. The good thing about this is that although our comfort and our joy can't last forever, neither can our pain and sorrow.

The moth being the focal point of this piece represents just how beautiful, yet fragile and temporary life can be. It's important to appreciate the beauty of life and the experience of love when we can find it... and to show loved ones how important they are while they are here, instead of waiting until they're gone. This is something that can be all too easy to forget when caught up in the comfort of habitual daily routines. Thank you all for reading and for the support I've gotten with my art so far. It really means so much. ❤️🔥

That hurt tech stocks. For the past few weeks, the 10-year yield has traded between 1.72% and 2%, as traders moved into the bond for safety when Russia headlines were ugly—and out of it when headlines improved. Now, the yield is touching its pandemic-era high. If the yield breaks above that level, that could signal that it’s on a sustainable path higher. Higher long-dated bond yields make future profits less valuable—and many tech companies are valued on the basis of profits forecast for many years in the future. Following this, Sebi, in an order passed in January 2022, established that the administrators of a Telegram channel having a large subscriber base enticed the subscribers to act upon recommendations that were circulated by those administrators on the channel, leading to significant price and volume impact in various scrips. "Like the bombing of the maternity ward in Mariupol," he said, "Even before it hits the news, you see the videos on the Telegram channels." It is unclear who runs the account, although Russia's official Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter account promoted the Telegram channel on Saturday and claimed it was operated by "a group of experts & journalists." "He has kind of an old-school cyber-libertarian world view where technology is there to set you free," Maréchal said.
