We have repeatedly said that the participants of the Solidarity Zone do not receive payment for their work — we all participate in the project on a volunteer basis. However, more and more work is being done. Most of the participants do not find time for paid work, plunging headlong into the Solidarity Zone.
We decided it wasn't fair. To compensate a little for the work of the participants, we are starting a Patreon. All donations made through Patreon, we plan to share equally among the participants.
Other details of the Solidarity Zone will continue to be used solely for the benefit of the persecuted, whom we support or want to support.

At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. Under the Sebi Act, the regulator has the power to carry out search and seizure of books, registers, documents including electronics and digital devices from any person associated with the securities market. A Russian Telegram channel with over 700,000 followers is spreading disinformation about Russia's invasion of Ukraine under the guise of providing "objective information" and fact-checking fake news. Its influence extends beyond the platform, with major Russian publications, government officials, and journalists citing the page's posts. In a statement, the regulator said the search and seizure operation was carried out against seven individuals and one corporate entity at multiple locations in Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar in Gujarat, Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Mumbai. Artem Kliuchnikov and his family fled Ukraine just days before the Russian invasion.
