Однако после того, как вернувшийся из Франции Курода перевернул представления японцев о ёга и заодно сверг с трона лучшего мастера живописи Асаи, тот и сам отыскал возможность съездить во Францию. Асаи было 44 года, когда он открыл для себя живопись импрессионистов после творческого пути, полного землистых, сдержанных тонов барбизонцев. С тех пор палитра Асаи полностью переменилась, а сам он стал увлекаться также фарфором и графикой.
Во Франции Асаи провёл с 1900 по 1902 года, и тогда была написана эта небольшая пленэрная работа.
