أمرُ الثعلب عند أبي عبد الله (الإمام أحمد) رحمه الله مُضطرب، وكذلك الأكابر من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ والتابعين، منهم من يجعل الثعلبَ سبُعًا ويحكم له بحُكمه، ومنهم من يقول: هو صيدٌ يُفدَى. ولا يختلف قول أبي عبد الله أنه يُفدَى إذا قتله المُحرِمُ، ولا يختلف قوله أنه يُلبس إذا دُبغ بعد أن يُذكَّى، وتُكره الصلاة فيه على أحد القولين، والقولُ الآخر أنه يُجيز الصلاةَ فيه، مثل ما رواه حنبل.
