Там радиоактивный торий-232, которого хоть и мало, но продукты его распада производят характерные пики в самом широком диапазоне энергий. Если набирать спектр пару-тройку дней, получается вполне неплохо. Можно взять для калибровки пики 65 кэВ, 583 кэВ и 2614 кэВ.
Период полураспада тория-232 больше 14 миллиардов лет, так что электрода хватит надолго.
