На встрече директор белгородского Центра молодёжных инициатив Александр Попов спросил у священника, как он относится к Мизулиной. Митрополит ответил, что не знает, кто это. Попов в общих чертах описал деятельность Мизулиной, на что митрополит Иоанн спросил: «Стукачка, что ли?»
После этого священник извинился за слово, но сказал, что «нельзя людей обкрадывать, обкрадывать информацию, обкрадывать свободы»
