Корея официально объявило об успешном завершении Научным институтом оборонных исследований (ADD) длившейся 10 лет разработке комплекса ПВО/ПРО большой дальности L-SAM, также известного как «корейский THAAD». Он входит в состав трёхосной системы обороны и Корейской системы ПРО (KAMD), и предназначен для перехвата воздушных целей на высоте от 40 до 70 км. Вместе с комплексами Cheongung-II (M-SAM, 15-20 км) и Patriot (PAC-3, 20-40 км) L-SAM сформирует эшелонированную систему противовоздушной и противоракетной обороны страны. В реализацию проекта было вложено 1,2 трлн вон. Развёртывание первых установок L-SAM запланировано уже на 2027 год. Поскольку в провинции Северная Кёнсан (Сончжу) находится американская система THAAD, то предполагается развернуть четыре батареи L-SAM – на юге Сеула, в провинциях Кёнги, Чхунчхон и Чолла.
