لما اشتد أذى المشركين على أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ حتى بلغ أقصاه، جاء بعض الصحابة يسألون الرسول الدعاء لهم وكأنهم قد تعجلوا النصر أو تسلل إلى نفوس بعضهم شيء من اليأس من شدة الكرب، قال لهم النبي ﷺ: "... وَاللَّهِ لَيُتِمَّنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ حَتَّى يَسِيرَ الرَّاكِبُ مِنْ صَنْعَاءَ إِلَى حَضْرَمَوْتَ لَا يَخَافُ إِلَّا اللَّهَ أَوْ الذِّئْبَ عَلَى غَنَمِهِ وَلَكِنَّكُمْ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ"
