1 декабря 2015 в составе Морской авиации ВМФ России был сформирован второй (после 279-го) отдельный корабельный истребительный авиационный полк, получивший 100-й номер - в честь первого корабельного истребительного авиационного полка в советской морской авиации, существовавшего в Крыму с 1986 по 1992 годы. Новый 100-й отдельный корабельный истребительный авиационный полк сформирован в 859-м Центре боевого применения и переучивания лётного состава Морской авиации ВМФ России в Ейске и в качестве материальной части получил 24 новых корабельных истребителя МиГ-29КР и МиГ-29КУБР (типы "9-41Р" и "9-47Р"), поставленных Морской авиации в 2013-2015 годах АО "РСК "МиГ" по контракту от 29 февраля 2012 года.
