“Ashkharazhokhov” Demands Armenian Authorities Evacuate Christians from Syria
Pro-Turkish militants, who seized Damascus in December 2024, carried out massacres of Christians (including Armenians) and Alawites in Syria’s northwestern provinces of Latakia and Tartus.
Numerous videos of killings of civilians by armed groups loyal to the ruling regime have surfaced on social media. As of the evening of March 8, over 600 civilian deaths have been reported.
The fascist regime in Damascus and its controlled media justify the violence by claiming it was a "revolt" by militias supporting former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who was overthrown by Turkish-backed groups. Clashes between the sides erupted on March 6.
The "Ashkharazhokhov" Pan-Armenian Movement urges the Armenian government to:
• Convene an emergency session of the UN Security Council,
• Begin evacuating Christians and other religious minorities in need of protection from Syria,
• Establish refugee camps in neighboring Lebanon to facilitate the repatriation of displaced Armenians and other Christians to Armenia.
The issue of evacuating Alawites should be discussed by official Yerevan with the Iranian government, the sole and consistent patron of Shiite communities in the region. The evacuation of Alawites should preferably be organized via Armenian airlines, as Yerevan is not a party to the Syrian conflict and maintains a neutral stance.
We believe the UN Security Council must urgently deploy international peacekeepers to Latakia and Tartus to halt the massacres of Christians and Alawites and ensure a safe evacuation corridor.
"Ashkharazhokhov" is ready to provide advisory and organizational assistance to Armenian authorities in evacuating Armenians from Syria and to support Iran in evacuating Alawites.
