Премьер-министр Республики Казахстан Олжас Бектенов и председатель совета директоров China Nonferrous Metal Mining Co. Ltd. Си Чжэнпин согласовали строительство в Казахстане строительство медеплавильного завода, который будет выпускать 300 тысяч тонн меди в год.
Договор подписали заказчик «KAZ Minerals Smelting», поставщик услуг по проектированию и закупок оборудования China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC) и «NFC Kazakhstan» – подрядчик строительных и пусконаладочных работ. Помимо меди, завод будет выпускать рафинированное золото, серебро и серную кислоту. Предприятие покроет внутренние нужды в катодной меди и переработке медного сырья.
Место для строительства завода выбрано в области Абай, рядом с поселком Актогай. Стоимость проекта превышает 1,5 млрд долларов, должно быть создано более тысячи рабочих мест. Планируется закончить работы в 2028 году.
