Преступники захватили 12 заложников в ИК-19 в городе Суровикино 23 августа. Это 4 осуждённых и 8 сотрудников колонии, входивших в состав дисциплинарной комиссии.
Четверо сотрудников ФСИН погибли, ещё четверо были ранены. По данным СМИ, всю прошедшую ночь сотрудники СК проводили следственные действия в ИК-19, а оперативники ФСИН - обыски в спальных помещениях колонии. Искали запрещённые предметы: телефоны, ножи, заточки, наркотики и алкоголь.
