Идея похожа на метод когда с помощью сигналов Wi-Fi-роутеров можно обнаруживать людей в помещении. 7000 спутников Starlink на низкой орбите непрерывно передают высокочастотные радиосигналы на Землю, а любое воздушное судно на пути этого потока будет искажать сигнал. Для обнаружения летательных аппаратов достаточно лишь анализировать помехи, ну а с помощью определенных алгоритмов можно будет даже восстановить профиль объекта.
В ходе эксперимента в районе Южно-Китайского моря ученые успешно засекли беспилотник DJI Phantom 4 Pro размером 35 см в поперечнике. На основе анализа сигналов Starlink и с помощью самодельного оборудования удалось восстановить изображение объекта вплоть до идентификации вращения пропеллеров.
