Проектировал знакомый вам Василий Николаевич Башкиров, архитектор Третьяковской и Цветковской галерей. Станция питала трамвайное движение. Ток шёл через электроподстанции (Лубянскую, Миусскую и Краснопрудную и т.д.) Основной вид топлива — мазут — поставлялся по трубопроводу со склада у станции Симоново.
В первые советские годы приобрела известное имя Государственная электростанция №2 (ГЭС-2). Вырабатывала энергию 99 лет, но была закрыта.
С 2014 года над бывшей электростанцией трудился известный архитектор Ренцо Пьяно, автор лондонского тучереза Shard и центра Помпиду в Париже. Теперь здесь галерея современного искусства. Только жаль, что на башенку не вернули часы.
