В день, предшествующий Рождественскому посту, мы вспоминаем одного из двенадцати учеников Иисуса Христа – апостола Филиппа. После призвания Петра и Андрея Господь повстречал Филиппа и сказал ему: «Иди за Мною». Услышав призыв Господа, юноша уверовал в Него всей душой и последовал за Спасителем. С этого момента Филипп повсюду следовал за своим Учителем.
После Вознесения Христова Филипп отправился с проповедью в Малую Азию, сопровождая проповедь чудесами.
Апостол был распят за свои христианские убеждения и, будучи повешенным на кресте, грозно обличал своих языческих недругов, которые в итоге и погибли в результате землетрясения за то, что пролили кровь невинную.
В день памяти апостола Филлипа происходит заговенье на Рождественский пост. Именно поэтому, кстати, в народе этот пост называют Филипповским.
