Комплексное исследование погребения с некрополя Ростовского городища (вторая половина VI — начало VII века н. э.) провели сотрудники Южного федерального университета. Главной особенностью данного погребения является сочетание признаков эпохи Великого переселения народов и изделий в геральдическом стиле, что является редким явлением для этого региона, особенно в контексте донской археологии. Кроме того, были получены данные генетического анализа, которые пролили свет на происхождение погребенного – его генетические маркеры указывают на азиатские корни, что соответствует общим историческим процессам Великого переселения народов.
