Это был не первый раз, когда на картину «нападали». В 1913 году полотно пострадало от трех ударов ножом, которые нанес 29-летний иконописец. После этого Репину пришлось восстанавливать лица изображенных на полотне практически с нуля.
Теперь холст будет выставляться в специально сконструированной климатической антивандальной капсуле.
