Это ферма, созданная Толстовским фондом - благотворительной организацией, основанной в 1939 г. младшей дочерью писателя Александрой Львовной для помощи русским эмигрантам: беженцам, перемещённым лицам, сиротам. Среди учредителей и спонсоров такие великие имена, как Игорь Сикорский и Сергей Рахманинов.

Фонд, кстати, существует и по сей день.
