Авиакатастрофа произошла в 5:40 по московскому времени. Примерно через три минуты после взлёта из аэропорта Адлера Ту-154 пропал с экранов радаров. В это время он набирал высоту. Никаких сигналов тревоги экипаж самолёта не подавал.
Этот борт должен был дозаправиться в Моздоке, однако там была плохая погода — облачность и –7 градусов. Диспетчеры направили его в Адлер.
На борту Ту-154 находились 92 человека: 64 музыканта из ансамбля имени Александрова, девять журналистов, восемь военнослужащих в чине от капитана до генерала, два чиновника и представитель Международной общественной организации "Справедливая помощь" Елизавета Глинка (доктор Лиза). Самолётом управляли восемь членов экипажа.
Официально о причинах катастрофы сообщили только через полгода — 31 мая. В Минобороны заявили, что ошибся командир судна — он потерял пространственную ориентацию

"The inflation fire was already hot and now with war-driven inflation added to the mix, it will grow even hotter, setting off a scramble by the world’s central banks to pull back their stimulus earlier than expected," Chris Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS, wrote in an email. "A spike in inflation rates has preceded economic recessions historically and this time prices have soared to levels that once again pose a threat to growth."
