Согласно действующему Закону об азартных играх, в городе разрешены только ставки на скачки, футбол и лотерея Mark Six, а также лицензированные салоны маджонга.
Правительство поручит Гонконгскому жокейскому клубу (HKJC), оператору скачек, спортивных пари и лотерей в мегаполисе, представить проект по легализации ставок на баскетбол.
Ожидается, что инициативу запустят к началу сезона НБА в 2026 году. По подсчетам законодателей, легализация ставок на баскетбол может принести в бюджет 1,5-2 млрд гонконгских долларов ($192-257 млн) в год.
