Приоткрыть, подбросить, приподнять… пост про глаголы неполноты действия в 🇬🇧!
Мы часто используем в ежедневной речи эти глаголы, правда? Поэтому в своей традиционной рубрике #глоссарий не могла обойти их стороной.
▶️Интересно, что в русском языке неполнота действия чаще всего обозначается приставками при-, недо-, над-, а в английском такого универсального правила нет: у них есть отдельные слова и выражения, приставка under, фразовые глаголы с предлогом up, а какие-то вообще не меняются, что при полном действии, что при неполном↩️ Тот случай, когда в русском правило проще, чем в английском😁

throw/toss the ball up in the air подбросить мяч
I can’t lift you upя не могу тебя приподнять I scooped up a crying toddler я приподняла орущего ребенка I picked her up anf gave her a cuddle я приподнял ее и обнял

bite my tongue прикусить язык (и в прямом, и в переносном смысле)
get a little sickприболеть (и вообще sick - это всегда про легкое течение болезни, простуду,в отличие от ill)

Given the pro-privacy stance of the platform, it’s taken as a given that it’ll be used for a number of reasons, not all of them good. And Telegram has been attached to a fair few scandals related to terrorism, sexual exploitation and crime. Back in 2015, Vox described Telegram as “ISIS’ app of choice,” saying that the platform’s real use is the ability to use channels to distribute material to large groups at once. Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations. One thing that Telegram now offers to all users is the ability to “disappear” messages or set remote deletion deadlines. That enables users to have much more control over how long people can access what you’re sending them. Given that Russian law enforcement officials are reportedly (via Insider) stopping people in the street and demanding to read their text messages, this could be vital to protect individuals from reprisals. If you initiate a Secret Chat, however, then these communications are end-to-end encrypted and are tied to the device you are using. That means it’s less convenient to access them across multiple platforms, but you are at far less risk of snooping. Back in the day, Secret Chats received some praise from the EFF, but the fact that its standard system isn’t as secure earned it some criticism. If you’re looking for something that is considered more reliable by privacy advocates, then Signal is the EFF’s preferred platform, although that too is not without some caveats. The original Telegram channel has expanded into a web of accounts for different locations, including specific pages made for individual Russian cities. There's also an English-language website, which states it is owned by the people who run the Telegram channels. Individual messages can be fully encrypted. But the user has to turn on that function. It's not automatic, as it is on Signal and WhatsApp.
