В 1988 году Роберт Эйхберг и Джин О'Лири придумали и провели первый День каминг-аута, чтобы побудить квир*комьюнити выходить из шкафа. Они считали, что гомофобия процветает там, где царит молчание. А значит, чем больше людей заявит о себе открыто, тем быстрее будут побеждены ненависть и квирфобия

Мы желаем всем, кто планирует выйти из шкафа счастливого каминг-аута, восхищаемся смелостью тех, кто уже решился на этот шаг и надеемся, что наступит день, когда каждые смогут рассказать о себе близким и получат в ответ только принятие и поддержку
