Заснять ирбиса инспектора не успели, но позже сфотографировали следы снежного барса на свежем снегу. Судя по снимкам, это действительно очень крупная особь. Скорее всего, считают ученые, зверь обходил индивидуальный участок перед периодом гона, который приходится на февраль-март.
Рейд в эту труднодоступную местность стал возможен благодаря вертолётной заброске, организованной ассоциацией «Ирбис». Инспекторы обычно перебираются на другой берег Аргута по льду, но в январе его снесла лавина.
