На реке Ниман, притоке Буреи, энергетики построят Нижне-Ниманскую ГЭС, мощностью 360 МВт (1,78 млрд. кВт·ч). На полную мощность электростанция, состоящая из четырех агрегатов, должна выйти к 2037 году.
Станция нужна в первую очередь в целях электрификации Байкало-Амурской магистрали для увеличения ее провозной способности.
Кроме того, генеральной схемой предусмотрено завершение строительства хабаровской ТЭЦ-4 (Южная ТЭЦ) до конца 2027 года. Новая теплоэлектроцентраль будет работать на газе.
