Чаще всего при слове «снегирь» в наших головах всплывает образ небольшой пушистой птицы с ярко-красным брюшком. Именно так выглядит самец обыкновенного снегиря. Нижняя часть тела у самок серо-бурого цвета (хорошо видно на втором фото). А ещё в Бурятии можно встретить серого снегиря (третье фото). Менее окрашенный «брат» отличается ещё и более маленьким клювом. А вот образ жизни у них очень схож: предпочитают растительную пищу, населяют тёмно-хвойную, преимущественно горную тайгу и смешанные леса, в холодное время года часто встречаются в городах и посёлках.
