Поправка пока на рассмотрении и решение о ее одобрении/неодобрении будут принимать в Сенате США. Подобное командование уже существовало в истории, правда с 1954 по 1979 гг. до официального установления дипломатических отношений между КНР и США. Если подобная поправка будет принята, то ответная реакция Пекина будет достаточно жесткой, вплоть до разрыва дипотношений. Тайваньский вопрос является для властей КНР довольно болезненным. Современные американо-китайские отношения строились на признании существования принципа одного Китая и принятие поправки может поставить под вопрос их будущее.
