Hagalaz, a rune associated with winter, embodies coldness and restriction. However, like hail melting into water, it teaches that negative situations can transform into positive ones over time. This rune connects to our unconscious mind, influencing our past and present experiences.

As the first rune of the second aett, Hagalaz signifies new beginnings and endings. It serves as a reminder to stay alert, especially when things seem too smooth, as fate may deliver sudden wake-up calls. These events, often misinterpreted as punishment, actually reveal recurring patterns in our lives. They can intensify until we learn the necessary lessons and change our behavior.

Embrace these challenges with determination, recognizing that overcoming them brings you closer to your goals. The greater the challenge, the more you stand to gain.
Mjolnir, the magical hammer of Thor, the Norse god of thunder, created lightning bolts and was vital in his battles against foes like frost giants and trolls. When thrown, it returned to Thor like a boomerang, and he wore special iron gloves to wield it due to its immense power. Lightning strikes were believed to be Thor using Mjolnir.

Crafted by the dwarf Sindri, Mjolnir's handle was shortened when Loki, the trickster god, disrupted the forging process. Despite this flaw, it was a deadly weapon. Mjolnir symbolized both death and life, linked to Thor’s control over rain and harvests, and was thought to bless marriages by warding off evil.

Images of Mjolnir appear on ancient stones, and it may have been used in early Christian Scandinavia to challenge the exclusivity of the Christian cross. Despite Thor's strength, he relied on Mjolnir, as seen when he disguised himself as Freya to retrieve it from the giant Thrym, who had stolen it.

Relationships thrive on a balance of giving and receiving, rooted in respect and partnership.

Gebo, the seventh rune, represents luck and the idea of gifts—both tangible and intangible. In ancient times, receiving a gift required reciprocation, fostering a bond with the giver, whether a person, fate, or the divine. Gebo also signifies partnership in love and business, as well as forgiveness, often symbolized by a kiss.

Accepting a gift indicates a willingness to reciprocate, while spiritual gifts hold immense value. It's important to give thoughtfully, as not everyone should receive gifts indiscriminately.

Gebo underscores mutual respect, understanding, and equality, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for positive outcomes.
Out of Chaos came light,
Out of Will came life,
Without form, without time
From iron black space
Through beads of crystal flame.
Cosmic rays of light and sound,
Spinning in seas of universal ether,
Piercing the armatures of spheres.
From the Mysteries—it comes.
From Legend—it comes.
From ancestors of a thousand ages—it comes.
The Spirit,
The Will,
The Wisdom,
Temple of Wotan.

We all strive for "the good life", but what does that even mean? Is it having more money than we would know how to spend? Is it a comfortable cozy home that we raise our families in? Is it the love of a good man or woman? Is it being healthy and physically fit?

We all have goals and ideas about what that "Good life" looks like, but sometimes we don't plan to get there...like that "someday" european vacation that we don't start saving for or picking a date to even go. If we don't map our path, we never get on it. We just see our goals off in the distance, never getting any closer, hovering on the horizon.

Many times we know the cost to attain our dreams and goals can be painful. You may have to leave people behind that will not be able to make that journey with you. You may have to sacrifice things you like doing in order to save or make time for that journey towards your goal. You may have to put in sweat equity and the pain of sore muscles and starting in a place that is physical painful everytime for a while, before you’re able to gain the health that makes it less so.

Do not avoid the pain. Do not fear the emotional or physical suffering. It is a part of life. It is the sour that makes the rest all the more sweet. It is the hunger that makes sustenance taste all the better.

Tyr did not avoid the pain of Fenris biting off his hand. He knew it would be the price to pay for the good of all. So he put his hand in the mouth of the wolf.

Odin plucked out his own eye to gain the wisdom he sought, knowing the cost, and paying it anyway. He again sacrificed himself when he was stabbed by the spear and hung from the tree for 9 days. It was torment that brought him knowledge and he did it anyway.

Freyr gave up his sword for the love of a woman. Knowing he faced his death with nothing but an antler to defend himself.

We must not fear the pain. We must embrace it to grow and to become more than who we are. Without it, we will stay a shadow of the greatness that we could be. We will suffer more in the long term for not making the short term sacrifices.

What is on your horizon? And what will you sacrifice to place your feet on the path to get there?

When you are discouraged, look to our Gods, our ancestors and heroes. Think on their pain and sacrifice that all have endured to find greatness. To save or protect what they love. And let it inspire you to dig in and claim your own.

Our people rise and fall together. We are only as strong as those we stand next to. Don't be the weak link in the chain. Strive for your best! It will inspire those next to you to do the same.

Guido von List, born on October 5, 1848, in Vienna, was a towering figure in the realm of occultism and a beacon of the Germanic spiritual renaissance. He devoted his life to reviving the ancient Germanic religion, which he termed Wotanism, and introduced an inner set of teachings known as Armanism. List's journey was marked by a deep connection to the pre-Christian Germanic past, and he claimed to have abandoned his family's Roman Catholic faith in childhood to devote himself to the god Wotan. His work as a journalist and playwright focused on the rural folk culture of Austria, and he founded the Guido-von-List-Gesellschaft in 1908, which became a significant platform for his ideas. Guido von List's heroic efforts in preserving and reviving ancient Germanic traditions have left an indelible mark on the spiritual landscape of Europe. Armanen Runes
