Десь на Вкраїні рідній снідає мовчки сім'я.

Друзi… Шалений, Вихор... Де ви? Я вас не чую!
Дайте мені напитися... Дайте менi води...
Боже! Допоможи нам, якщо ти справдi існуєш.
Господи, як порідшали наші солдатські ряди.

Що так щемить всерединi страшним та пекучим болем?
Серце моє вистрибує, руки мої висять.
Ми навпростець тікали мінним донбаським полем.
Нас ще в середині серпня билося п'ятдесят.

Потім туман i холод – зла людоїдська осінь.
Ми закріпилися начебто аж на чотири дні.
Двадцять бійців залишилося в тій лiсополосi досі,
двадцять братів безстрашних. Бачу їх уві сні.

Вихор, Шалений, де ви? Здається мені – вмираю.
Ніби нерідним тіло стає, холодіє кров.
Господи, забери мене до солдатського раю.
Господи, я молю тебе... Не вiдмов.

Дякую тобi, Боже! Сяйво! Чудове сяйво!
Біло-срiблястий промінь від неба i до землі.
Господи, я помер? Душа моя тут не зайва?

– Умер. Ты умер, Каин. Присаживайся, говори.
