Tomorrow’s Diplomacy Horizons: A Transformative Journey for Young International Relations Specialists 🚀

The final chapter of 2024 InteRussia fellowships has officially ended. Over the six weeks of intensive work, fellows from Argentina, Cameroon, India, Iran, Kenya, Moldova, Pakistan, and Turkey immersed themselves in an exceptional blend of academic rigor, practical engagement, and cultural exploration.

Here’s what they achieved:

🟣developed research projects on values and institutions in the changing world order under the academic guidance of lead scholars from MGIMO Institute for International Studies;

🟣engaged in the Dialogue for the Future 2024, Valdai Discussion Club and HSE University conference on the global majority, sparking innovative ideas for international cooperation;

🟣held thought-provoking discussions with Sergey Lavrov, Feodor Voitolovsky, Mikhail Shvydkoy, and Sergei Krikalev;

🟣explored the artistic essence of Russia with visits to the Museum of Russian Impressionism and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art.

The programme has not only shaped our fellows' professional paths but also broadened their perspectives for the challenges ahead. Thus, its impact will resonate in shaping the next generation of diplomatic leaders.

That hurt tech stocks. For the past few weeks, the 10-year yield has traded between 1.72% and 2%, as traders moved into the bond for safety when Russia headlines were ugly—and out of it when headlines improved. Now, the yield is touching its pandemic-era high. If the yield breaks above that level, that could signal that it’s on a sustainable path higher. Higher long-dated bond yields make future profits less valuable—and many tech companies are valued on the basis of profits forecast for many years in the future. At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. He floated the idea of restricting the use of Telegram in Ukraine and Russia, a suggestion that was met with fierce opposition from users. Shortly after, Durov backed off the idea. At this point, however, Durov had already been working on Telegram with his brother, and further planned a mobile-first social network with an explicit focus on anti-censorship. Later in April, he told TechCrunch that he had left Russia and had “no plans to go back,” saying that the nation was currently “incompatible with internet business at the moment.” He added later that he was looking for a country that matched his libertarian ideals to base his next startup. Now safely in France with his spouse and three of his children, Kliuchnikov scrolls through Telegram to learn about the devastation happening in his home country.
