Злобные еретики неоднократно возводили на него самую гнусную и подлую ложь, которую только можно придумать. Как повествует житие святителя:
"46 лет святитель Афанасий был епископом города Александрии и много раз изгонялся с кафедры и возвращался обратно, потому что ариане, называющие себя христианами, верующими в Евангелие, искали, придумывали вину, чтобы осудить и предать смерти святителя."
Его отправляли в изгнание предавали суду но по воле Божией и по милости равноапостольного императора Константина он был оправдан и возвращен на епископскую кафедру Александрии.
И описывается в житии святителя Афанасия, что последнее время своей жизни он жил в мире и спокойствии, почил о Господе 2 мая 373 г. в возрасте 76 лет.
