Five Mercenaries Eliminated and Others Wounded in Clashes with our Forces Southeast Manbij
Fierce clashes erupted between forces of the Manbij Military Council and Turkish occupation mercenaries southeast of Manbij yesterday evening and continued into this morning. Five mercenaries were eliminated during the clashes, and three of their vehicles were destroyed. Furthermore, our forces seized a quantity of weapons and ammunition belonging to the mercenaries. Our forces exercised their legitimate self-defense and right to respond, directly targeting the points and positions of the mercenaries in those areas. On the frontline of Qara Qwzaq Bridge, the Turkish occupation targeted the surrounding areas and Serrin Airfield with heavy artillery fire, causing only material damage. In the Zarkan area, a Turkish UCAV targeted a point belonging to the Internal Security Forces, resulting in the martyrdom of one member of the Internal Security Forces and one member of the Military Discipline Forces, and four members of the Internal Security Forces were injured. The fake Zelenskiy account reached 20,000 followers on Telegram before it was shut down, a remedial action that experts say is all too rare. Telegram boasts 500 million users, who share information individually and in groups in relative security. But Telegram's use as a one-way broadcast channel — which followers can join but not reply to — means content from inauthentic accounts can easily reach large, captive and eager audiences. Some people used the platform to organize ahead of the storming of the U.S. Capitol in January 2021, and last month Senator Mark Warner sent a letter to Durov urging him to curb Russian information operations on Telegram. "There is a significant risk of insider threat or hacking of Telegram systems that could expose all of these chats to the Russian government," said Eva Galperin with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which has called for Telegram to improve its privacy practices. The company maintains that it cannot act against individual or group chats, which are “private amongst their participants,” but it will respond to requests in relation to sticker sets, channels and bots which are publicly available. During the invasion of Ukraine, Pavel Durov has wrestled with this issue a lot more prominently than he has before. Channels like Donbass Insider and Bellum Acta, as reported by Foreign Policy, started pumping out pro-Russian propaganda as the invasion began. So much so that the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council issued a statement labeling which accounts are Russian-backed. Ukrainian officials, in potential violation of the Geneva Convention, have shared imagery of dead and captured Russian soldiers on the platform.
