Население Скальбии — преимущественно христианское.
Протестующие христиане потребовали от нового правительства Сирии выгнать приезжих боевиков, пригрозив началом боевых действий. Захватившие власть повстанцы в свою очередь заявили, что виновные в поджоге уже задержаны.
