Способ очистки анапского песка от мазута разработали в МГУ им. Н.П. Огарёва в Мордовии.

Созданый молодыми учеными субстрат полностью биоразлагаемый, поэтому в дальнейшем его могут применить для очищения от мазута птиц. В настоящее время лабораторная технология промасштабирована до отчистки 10 кг песка за один цикл. При выезде на пляжи Анапы её масштабируют до отчистки нескольких тонн за сутки.
