You may recall that, back when Facebook started changing WhatsApp’s terms of service, a number of news outlets reported on, and even recommended, switching to Telegram. Pavel Durov even said that users should delete WhatsApp “unless you are cool with all of your photos and messages becoming public one day.” But Telegram can’t be described as a more-secure version of WhatsApp. False news often spreads via public groups, or chats, with potentially fatal effects. The message was not authentic, with the real Zelenskiy soon denying the claim on his official Telegram channel, but the incident highlighted a major problem: disinformation quickly spreads unchecked on the encrypted app. "He has to start being more proactive and to find a real solution to this situation, not stay in standby without interfering. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised.
