Devana, The Forest Mother
Devana, Mistress of the Hunt, The Proud Lady, wild goddess of the Slavs.
Devana wears a wolf or bear pelt, hair loose and unbraided crowned with a regal pair of antlers, in the company of wolves with her bow in hand; she desired to be free and never marry, even going so far as to defy the other gods, planning to overthrow them so she alone could rule all the realms.
Perun discovering her plans, easily bested her in combat then betrothed her to his rival Weles. Despite this Devana is still considered a Maiden or Young Bride.
In her role as The Forest Mother she looks after the woods especially the parts unknown to man. Traditionally hunters in some areas carve an idol of a young woman known as May, Summer, or The Bride.
In some traditions, Winter is burned and Devana as goddess of Summer is carved into a small fir tree, decorated with flowers and brought by a singing group of boys house to house to welcome in Summer.-TLK
