Schoolteacher Boris Goncharenko was detained in October 2022 on suspicion of setting fire to a military recruitment office in Goryachy Klyuch (Krasnodar region). Initially, Boris was charged with "attempted destruction of property" (part 3, Article 30; part 2, Article 167 of the Russian Criminal Code), which carried a maximum sentence of 3 years and 9 months in prison. Later, the Federal Security Service (FSB) took over the investigation, and Goncharenko became a suspect in a case of "committing a terrorist act" (part 2, Article 205 of the Criminal Code). This dramatically increased his potential prison sentence — up to 20 years.

Shortly before the verdict, prosecutor Alexei Khanenya changed the charge from "committing a terrorist act" to "assistance to terrorist activities" (part 3, Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code) and requested an 11-year prison sentence for Boris. In the end, Goncharenko was sentenced to 12 years in prison — a year more than the prosecutor’s request.

Boris disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal the court’s decision.

Solidarity zone is launching a new fundraising campaign to cover legal fees for an appeal in court. To challenge the unjust sentence, €2 560 need to be raised.

Ukrainian forces successfully attacked Russian vehicles in the capital city of Kyiv thanks to a public tip made through the encrypted messaging app Telegram, Ukraine's top law-enforcement agency said on Tuesday. Such instructions could actually endanger people — citizens receive air strike warnings via smartphone alerts. He said that since his platform does not have the capacity to check all channels, it may restrict some in Russia and Ukraine "for the duration of the conflict," but then reversed course hours later after many users complained that Telegram was an important source of information. Asked about its stance on disinformation, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn told AFP: "As noted by our CEO, the sheer volume of information being shared on channels makes it extremely difficult to verify, so it's important that users double-check what they read." "Someone posing as a Ukrainian citizen just joins the chat and starts spreading misinformation, or gathers data, like the location of shelters," Tsekhanovska said, noting how false messages have urged Ukrainians to turn off their phones at a specific time of night, citing cybersafety.
