خواجه نصیرالدین طوسی را می‌توان یکی از بزرگترین دانشمندان تاریخ اسلام دانست که در علوم گوناگونی چون ریاضیات، نجوم، فلسفه و کلام دستاوردهای بی‌نظیری داشت. او با تأسیس رصدخانه مراغه و گردآوری دانشمندان از سراسر جهان اسلام، نه تنها به پیشرفت علوم کمک کرد، بلکه به حفظ میراث علمی جهان اسلام در دوران بحران پرداخت. او به حق، نگاهبان میراث علمی جهان اسلام در زمان حمله مغول و احیاگر حیات عقلی جهان اسلام بود.
