Книга Стэнли Лэн-Пуля, известного английского нумизмата и ориенталиста конца XIX - начала XX в., автора исследований по истории, искусству и этнографии арабов Египта, истории Великих Моголов и мусульманской эпиграфике, была опубликована в 1894 году и уже в 1899 усилиями В.В. Бартольда, будущего академика, а в то время приват-доцента Санкт-Петербургского университета, вышел в свет ее перевод на русский язык с многочисленными поправками и дополнениями переводчика. До настоящего времени книга Ст. Лэн-Пуля остается (наряду со справочником К.Э. Босворта, 1971 г.) единственным путеводителем по мусульманской хронологии и генеалогии на русском языке.
