В 2024 году внимание СМИ было сфокусировано на пяти секторах экономики: авиация, добыча и переработка природных ресурсов, IT и интернет-компании, банки и финансы, торговые сети и производство продуктов питания. На долю предприятий, относящихся к сектору авиации, который представлен авиастроительными предприятиями, авиаперевозчиками и аэропортами, приходится 14% от общего числа компаний с наибольшим показателем Индекса Заметности в российских СМИ. Доля предприятий, занимающихся добычей и переработкой природных ресурсов, составляет 13% всех участников рейтинга. Незначительно от них отстаёт IT-сектор, его доля составила 12%. За ними следует сектор банковских и финансовых услуг с долей 10%, а также торговые сети и производители продуктов питания с долей 7%.

At this point, however, Durov had already been working on Telegram with his brother, and further planned a mobile-first social network with an explicit focus on anti-censorship. Later in April, he told TechCrunch that he had left Russia and had “no plans to go back,” saying that the nation was currently “incompatible with internet business at the moment.” He added later that he was looking for a country that matched his libertarian ideals to base his next startup. On February 27th, Durov posted that Channels were becoming a source of unverified information and that the company lacks the ability to check on their veracity. He urged users to be mistrustful of the things shared on Channels, and initially threatened to block the feature in the countries involved for the length of the war, saying that he didn’t want Telegram to be used to aggravate conflict or incite ethnic hatred. He did, however, walk back this plan when it became clear that they had also become a vital communications tool for Ukrainian officials and citizens to help coordinate their resistance and evacuations. This ability to mix the public and the private, as well as the ability to use bots to engage with users has proved to be problematic. In early 2021, a database selling phone numbers pulled from Facebook was selling numbers for $20 per lookup. Similarly, security researchers found a network of deepfake bots on the platform that were generating images of people submitted by users to create non-consensual imagery, some of which involved children. Telegram has gained a reputation as the “secure” communications app in the post-Soviet states, but whenever you make choices about your digital security, it’s important to start by asking yourself, “What exactly am I securing? And who am I securing it from?” These questions should inform your decisions about whether you are using the right tool or platform for your digital security needs. Telegram is certainly not the most secure messaging app on the market right now. Its security model requires users to place a great deal of trust in Telegram’s ability to protect user data. For some users, this may be good enough for now. For others, it may be wiser to move to a different platform for certain kinds of high-risk communications. Despite Telegram's origins, its approach to users' security has privacy advocates worried.
