Он был назначен туда 12 июля 2022 года с подачи и.о.губернатора Павла Малкова. На сегодняшний день обязанности директора Дворца исполняет Сергей Евгеньевич Рашенбуршев.
Смирнов Олег Евгеньевич теперь официально трудоустроен директором Государственного автономного учреждения Рязанской области "Хокейный клуб "Рязань-ВДВ".
