Ранее его арестовали за распространение видеоролика, на котором несколько мужчин, находясь на площади Республики в Ереване, поют на азербайджанском языке. Бабаян является главой «Независимого центра стратегических исследований», до этого он был проректором Университета Месроп Маштоц в Степанакерте.

В настоящий момент к зданию суда прибывают как протестующие, так и силовики.
