«تشخیص» وضعیت کیفیت آموزش‌های دانشگاهی با توسل به عدد و رقم نه تنها نمی‌تواند به روشنگری در مورد آن بیانجامد بلکه تصویر ایستایی از پویایی آن ارایه می‌دهد و به شکاف بین تصمیمات مدیریتی با واقعیت‌ها دامن می‌زند. برای برون رفت از این معضل لازم است ذهنیتی که روش‌های کمی نگر و کاهنده را در مدیریت سیستم‌های پیچیده دانشگاهی مستقر کرده است تغییر کند و ذهنیت کاهنده و ساده نگر با آن چه اندیشه‌ی پیچیده نامیده می‌شود جایگزین گردد. این جایگزینی امکان دوری از فرمالیسمی که عملکرد آموزش عالی و دانشگاه‌ها را در سیطره‌ی خود قرار داده است فراهم می‌آورد. فقدان چنین اندیشه‌ای در میدان عمل سبب می‌شود که فعالیت‌های کنشگران دانشگاهی نتواند در مسیر پر پیچ و خم شکل گیری دانشگاه دانش زا و فضیلت خواه گام برداشته و توان آفرینش "کیفیت بی نام" پیدا کنند، آفرینشی که اندیشه، عمل و اخلاق بزرگان فرهنگ این مرز و بوم درس‌های گران بهایی برای آن در بر دارد.
