Syria: The US sends troops to the Kurdish city of Kobani, on the border with Turkey
Convoys of American forces arrived at the Kurdish city of Kobani (also known as Ain al-Arab), where they took over positions that had previously belonged to the Russian army (and were apparently vacated due to the reduction of Russian forces).
Kobani, as you can see, is in a strategic location that the Turkish president greatly desires: both right on the border with Turkey and right between the rebel-controlled main territory and the enclave of Tel Abyad (which both Erdogan and the rebels would very much like to connect).
The US appears to stand with the Kurds on this one, signaling to the rebels and Erdogan regarding Kobani:
Don't!
