Luigi twitter has led me to back pain twitter which has led me to medical malpractices and like, how can you blame people for distrusting / being afraid of science when everything done and produced is made in the search for profits ?
This society is sick, and convincing people hurt by it that we need to topple it, and that they'll be the ones in the driver's seat, requires a lot more than "facts and logic" and being called stupid. The exploited and oppressed are called stupid every day by the ruling class, for not rising above their situation. It may sound corny, but caring for people different from you, in beliefs and origin and situation, caring and trying so hard to understand you begin to love, that's the starting point for sharing ideas with people.
More than a decade ago, I discovered the words of class-enemy, reactionary ultra-religious preacher Orson Scott Card : "to think like them, you have to understand them, and once you understand them, you love them."
His reasoning was about defeating people (and probably a whole ass of Christianity pain and sin and superiority and love and Messiah shit I simply wasn't raised to get), but it came back to me when I realised that you can't convince people without knowing how they think, what revolts them in this society, what they want for a future. Genuine bonds between individuals revolted by this world is by far not sufficient to bring capitalism to its knees, but it sure is necessary.
Discomfort with socializing, meeting strangers, eye contact, small talk, arguments with loved ones, speaking with people whose beliefs and living conditions are so far away from yours, all these barriers will need to become mere sidewalk in your quest for a better world. You're not alone struggling, and you'll find so much beauty and depth and life along the way.
