По словам кандидата геолого-минералогических наук Игоря Губина, территория, предположительно богатая нефтью и газом, находится южнее ранее обнаруженных Томторского месторождения редкоземельных металлов и Попигайского месторождения импактных алмазов. Ученые вели многолетние исследования под научным руководством специалиста в области геологии и геохимии нефти и газа, академика РАН Алексея Конторовича.
