Станислав Афанасенко официально стал главой округа в декабре 2022 года. До этого он два месяца был исполняющим обязанности. Должность стала вакантной после того, как ее покинул Олег Буданов, ставший советником гендиректора автомобильного завода «Урал» в Миассе.
Минувшим летом Карабаш пострадал от наводнения из-за прорыва плотины на Киалимском водохранилище и перелива водоемов. После этого здесь возникли проблемы с водоснабжением.
